  • Horse assisted education

Although we work with horses this programme is not about horses - it is about people

Please contact us for details about available courses.

    leadership teambuilding
    personal development

Out of the box Team Building opportunity - IN CYPRUS!
Rediscover core skills - (in today's hectic lifestyle, have they got lost?)
Experience how important trust, respect, honesty, humility, integrity and authenticity are in effective
communication and in getting results - for yourself and for your organisation.
Experience a new world of learning.
We are all leaders, some lead themselves, some lead others

Congruent, inspirational leadership is the order of the day (for an easier and more meaningful life)
    - Being clear about what you want at any given moment and understanding what being congruent means for you
    - Understanding your peers and those you are leading, the way they think and communicate and......
    - Simultaneously focussing on both in order to ......
    - Take appropriate action

Don't spend on your leadership and team development - Invest!

  • Horse Assisted Leadership Development is a powerful experiential approach for developing aligned personal skills by working in partnership with horses.

You try out your skills in action by working with a large powerful horse to do simple tasks. Why horses? Because horses are extremely canny herd animals that only respond well to good congruent leadership and instinctively challenge weak leaders. They don't have a personal agenda. They just respond to who you are and how you are at any moment. Human to human communication is 93% nonverbal, yet most education and training concentrates on the remaining 7% - words. As you learn to lead a horse without words (and without force or eventually, any rope) you are developing the neglected 93%.

You will be amazed at how instant and accurate the feedback is. Guaranteed.

Horse Assisted Team Building is a unique and powerful experiential team event working with horses. You will experience a positive change in your teams. On our team events your people will:
    - Understand and appreciate the unique skills of each team member.
    - Actually work together in challenging situations, not role play and pretend.
    - Know how to engage with the entire team more effectively.
    - Leave with a clear vision on how to work together.
    - Feel part of a cohesive, high performance team.
So much training focuses on what we do in the team. This programme is different. Working with the horses you focus on how and who you are in the team. We work with the really important elements of teamwork:
    - clarity of purpose, awareness, belief in self and others, confidence and the importance and dynamics of leadership within the team.

Very new in Cyprus, but established and recognised internationally (European Association for Equine Assisted Education)
Horses and man working together....the horses are the teachers. Some feedback:

There is no other way to test yourself without fear of failure. Harry, Architect, London Caroline and Lindsey are a double act, took us through a fascinating day of personal growth and leadership seen through the eyes of a horse. One of the encounters with `my' horse reduced me to tears. In this case ones of happiness. If I tell more it will take away some of the magic for you! I can thoroughly recommend time spent with Caroline and Lindsey, you will not regret it.

  • Connect with Horses - Connect with People

Three doctors, a mathematician, mum, architect and psycho the rapist, (better jointhosewordstogether!!), tried some leadership training with a difference last month. Saddled with their life's experiences they partnered a herd of horses to help them explore outside their `comfort zone' of `normal' life and into a new zone of learning with the instant feedback you can only get from a horse!
The day began with watching the herd and learning about `herd dynamics' with all the hilarious comments from the participants about people they knew being which horse! It was interesting to see what can be learned from the horses' behaviour and how it can be transferred to our everyday lives. `Alogo' is the Greek word for horse meaning 'no words'. So appropriate that the ancient Greeks recognised the horse as having the innate ability to be able to communicate so completely and powerfully without words, (hence `SilentHorsePower' as the company name!) You know exactly where you are and who you are with a horse ...the feedback is instant ... they see right through to the heart of you - they respond to congruent leadership ... no need for words ... no need for force.
Most of the group had never touched a horse before, but quickly learned that there was no need for fear either - they found that a horse will love you unconditionally, so long as you are authentic! Harry, the architect exclaimed, "There is no other way to test yourself without fear of failure.” So empowering, so inspiring, so interesting! And what we all enjoy about working with the horses is that you find out for yourself, there's no finger pointing, no `I told you so!!!` Just lots of `Cor blimey, what about that!!!`
To introduce our group to the horses, everyone learned how to approach, touch, `breathe with' and lead a horse in safety and so without fear. Those who began by saying "It will never come with me” found that to be true ... but by simply stating their positive intent and saying, "I am going to lead this horse around those cones” found it to be delightfully easy ... and with a loose rein! After a lively lunch flowing with discussion, questions and exchanges, the group again chose which horse they wanted to work with to explore more situations, finding more and more that they could change their leadership style to suit what they were doing and together with any of the horses, find their own solutions.
One particular exercise involved individuals `joining up' with their chosen horse. Neil, one of the doctors who is studying `Wilderness therapy' and working with disadvantaged adolescents, chose to join up with Bobby, who was a rescue horse and the new boy to the herd. Neil said he identified with Bobby and found it disarmingly powerful when the horse came to him and unquestioningly followed him wherever he went; he was surprised to be deeply moved to tears of happiness. It is unbelievable how you feel when you discover how stunningly you can communicate without words! Everyone went away having developed at least some of "the neglected 93%” which all the leadership training in the world will tell you is the missing and vital and most effective ... non verbal communication percentage!
The course is about people, not horses - the horses are the teachers - they work with people so they can experience the magnificence which is within them. Working outside helps people reconnect with natural elements - it is "rediscovery” work. It is about trust and openness.

  • Eclipse

Came to us as a four year old in December 2009. His 'mum', who bred him was moving to be the Chief Technical Officer at the Arab Stud in Ryadh! She took African Sky, Eclipse's father, with her and Clippy (as he is fondly called here) came to Ride in Cyprus. We started him off as he'd never been ridden and he spent his first year as lead horse. He loved it and is a total favourite for the summer students, experienced riders and children on the lead rein. He spent a year at Dhekelia to further his education in the school. He can be cheeky and pulls faces in the stable! Horse Assisted Education clients choose him to partner them and he is very effective at reflecting their issues. He is ridden in English and Western tack and even a Parelli halter - he is a very comfortable, willing, fun ride.

  • Alfonzo

Arrived in March 2012 and is my dream horse - soulful, connected, forgiving and willing. His career as a showjumper has put all the buttons in place for a wonderful, responsive ride. He loves being in front and is a very responsible leader, but calm when I need him to go behind. He is a sweetheart to lead a pony from. He is low in the 'peck' order of the herd, not bossy at all! He feels as if he is on holiday here and sees life now as a happy retirement. When partnering him in Horse Assisted Education sessions, those who choose to partner with him always find their issues effectively reflected by him - he passively challenges and is obviously a 'healer'! I feel he is here to look after me and I trust him implicitly.

  • Harry

Joined us at the beginning, in spring 2008. He is the herd 'boss'. He was bred for the racecourse but joined us as a 3 year old before ever being raced. When I met him, he came over and put his head in my arms saying "I'm coming home with you!" He was always a step ahead of the game.... I was on page one of the training manual when he was on page 30! We lunged him maybe five times, put the tack on and his trekking career started. Six years on, he is loved by all riders, beginner and experienced, he rises to their level. He has always maintained his position as the head of the herd and is respected by all members of the herd, new horses getting the picture pretty quickly. On a ride he prefers to be in a position where he can see what is going on in front of him, but also happy to stride out ahead. He is very popular for Horse Assisted Education clients and connects easily with people.

  • Megatron

Was helicoptered in as a 5 year old for the summer of 2013! So unexpected, that is what it felt like. He was imported with his brother to Cyprus from Sweden but his owner had to move to Europe so he was offered to me on loan. Falling in love with him, we bought him over this winter, leg by leg! Megatron has worked his way to the middle of the 'herd order' but never challenges Harry or Farouk. He now lowers his big gentle head to help you put on his bridle and his enormous soft eyes melt anyone he focusses on. He is usually the first to say hello and Horse Assisted Education clients are amazed to see how he connects with them and how gently he will be led through a seemegly impossible maze. He is great for our larger riders and is also ridden by tiny people, one 14 year old particularly loves him - she's 40kg! He's great in the lead, the middle or behind and is famous for his 'comfort breaks'. He is love!

  • Farouk

is the old gentleman of the herd, assertive but kind, he was the first Ride in Cyprus horse and has taught many riders of all ages to walk, trot and canter. He is a favourite with 'returners' to riding and has trekked across the island many times without ever putting a foot wrong. Trusty Farouk has always been the 'default' safe ride and taught the others how to behave by his exemplary behaviour. Now he is 19 year old, we give him an easier time when the work is handed out and choose lighter riders for him. He is a beautiful mahogany bay and 'No 2' to Harry in the herd heirarchy.

  • Fauntleroy

Wandered into a friend's yard with his mother five years ago and was orphaned soon after, they adopted him and brought him up with their loving family and a gelding as a stable mate. He came to us as a stallions in the spring of 2013 and six weeks after gelding him, he became the perfect pony! Very friendly and loving any attention and lots of hugs he is gathering a large herd of admirers. He is ridden in English and Western tack and is a well behaved, strong and comfortable pony.

  • History under starters orders...

    Herd history.

Ninteen horses have lived for various times and reasons at Ride in Cyprus and regulars here will remember all of them fondly. SHADOW - was an angel and with us from the start. You could put babies on him! Once, in the early days, I needed to bring three horses home alone.... As I was getting on Freebie, with Harry in tow, Shadow slowly started to walk, then trot towards home, which made mounting difficult. I said Shadow!! Please come back, you trotting off is not helping!...and to my grateful amazement, he stopped, turned round and came back! The three of us trotted and cantered the six miles home, Shadow leading the way, alone, but staying close, trotting and cantering when asked. I will never forget that day, or Shadow and the lovely rides he gave us all, especially bareback galloping him across the fields. He died in October 2011.
Freebie was a great lead horse for a couple of years, now retired with his “mum”, Sue, at Dhekelia Saddle Club. Johnny Thunder, Vardi, Silver, Mistico, Blacky and Mr Big Ears, the donkey. Also a neighbour's donkey and her colt were here while the little one needed treatment for a nasty wound which needed an operation (when he was better, mummy donkey broke through the electric fence and took him home! The horse called “No Name” came on trial for a friend. Levantino was part of the team from 2009 to 2013 and now luxuriously retired near Limassol. Bobby, Coco, General and Tychon all had holidays here before moving on.
