Do I need to bring all my riding kit?
- We have a large selection of riding helmets, half chaps, boots and gloves for casual riders – if you are coming for a long trek, you will probably be more comfortable with your own kit.

I have never ridden before - can I come?
-
Yes definitely! We have many new riders and many ‘returners’ who haven’t ridden for 30 or 40 years. The horses are selected for their calm and gentle natures and we will lead you from the ground until you feel confident. You can have time in the school (a fenced, flat area) and on a trek, the pace will be kept at the level of the least experienced rider. If your group is of a mixed standard and one of you wishes to canter, the horses do not mind – but we control the situation so everyone is safe and comfortable. You will not be put in the situation of others cantering off and leaving you!
If you have booked a series of rides, you will usually ride with the instructor privately and on a lead rein until you ‘get the hang of it’!

Is there something for the non riders in our group to do when I am riding?
-
There is a local quiet, family run, ‘country’ hotel which serves food all day, has a pool and wonderful views from the terrace. The forest station at Stavros tis Psokas is 20km away and has a canteen and Mouflon enclosure and there are many walks with spectacular views all around the area. If you are on a longer trek, they can also hire mountain bikes or enjoy some water sports as Latchi is only 20 minutes away.

Are you open all year?
-
Oh yes! The hunters shoot on Sundays and Wednesdays from Nov to Feb, so we avoid those days.

Is there an
age
limit?
-
You can be as old or as young as you like. It all depends on fitness and ability. Anyone less than 7 generally only wants a lead around the paddock just to see what it is like – but we had a 4 year old who had her own pony at home, who came on a lead on a hack and could direct Shadow easily! There is no upper age limit – if you can still get your leg over …. you’re on!

Is there a
weight limit?
-
The weight limit is 85kg. However, if it is not an all day ride and the pace is slow, then you can be heavier. For a gentle hour, you can be 100kg.

Do you ride in all weathers?
-
We have some incredible winter ‘Coptic gales’ in this area – there is a chart which predicts when they will come and they are usually correct within 48 hours so we tend to batten down the hatches when one of those is around. In the summer, we ride early mornings or late afternoons to avoid the heat – but because we are up in the mountains, we are a few degrees cooler and usually have a lovely breeze, so can’t be compared with the temperature at the coast!
